Description
This online course is intended to provide a broad introduction to, examination of, and community discussions and individual reflections on, the modern Civil Rights Movement. It will do so through A) Newberry College-sponsored experiential learning (EX) trips to Civil Rights sites to take place at college and departmental discretion in May following Spring Commencement; and B) class sessions team-taught by Humanities Department faculty that will incorporate African-American Literature, African-American Studies, History, and Religion in a collaboration intended to give students a more holistic appreciation and deeper understanding of the modern Civil Rights Movement and its multiple legacies. Coursework will consist of readings, active engagement in class discussions, and brief written assignments and reaction assignments to the topics and themes examined on the EX trip and in class sessions.
