Description

In INQ 127 Women in Art, we will concentrate on the lives and art of several specific 19th and 20th century American women. It will be conducted through formal analysis and historical placement. In the process, we will review the lives and artistic work of Frances Flora Palmer, Lilly Martin Spencer, Jenny Brownscombe, Mary Nimmo Moran, Edmonia Lewis, Cecilia Beaux, Mary Cassatt, Enid Yandell, Betsey Potter Vonnoh, Anna Hyatt Huntington, Elizabeth O’Neill Verner, Frances Benjamin Johnston, Gertrude Kasebier, Doris Ulmann, Elizabeth Catlett, Claire Leighton, Augusta Savage, Anne Ryan, and Sister Corita Kent. Consequently, students will come to understand the challenges and successes encountered by American women artists.
