Baseball in America (MAY 108)

Term: 2020-2021 May Term

Description

Baseball has long been considered America's past time and has been a central institution in our country for over 150 years. This course will explore how baseball has both shaped, and been shaped by the social, political and economic forces of our American experience. We will study stories of immigrants, racial prejudice, labor movements, gender politics, patriotism, and much more. Our exploration will include readings, movies, and attendance at one professional game, one game, and one college game. Throughout the course we may find ourselves engaging in baseball trivia battles or debating the greatest players and teams of all time, but most importantly you will leave this class with a great appreciation for the links between this beloved game and the larger story of our American history. $100 course fee to cover tickets and travel cost.
